Converting PDF to JPG - Cricut Series - Sewing with Kelley

In our previous tutorials, you learned how to convert PDF to SVG files, that you could import into Cricut with minimal editing. But, some PDF patterns don't work well for that method so today I'll show you another way. It's not a new way, but the conversion from PDF to JPG is faster than doing screen grabs or snippets.

Out of curiosity, why affinity publisher vs affinity designer? I've dabbled with both but not extensively. I used designer when I tried this. Is publisher better?
Designer will work just fine; in fact, it's what I prefer now for this kind of work (but both work fine)

It's a little loud, but so is the 2010Q. After awhile, in all seriousness, it's kind of a comforting sound.

I love all of the tassels. They’re awesome!! I have made a couple of different styles that I’ve seen here and there but my biggest problem is finding big bead caps or something the to use at the top of the tassels! If you know of a place where I can purchase some of the ones you’re using can you please point me in that direction? It would mean a lot to me.
Really loved your video. I would appriciate it if you add a shopping/material list. I did go to the Tops and Bobbins site but had know idea what to look for🙄
I tried your method with your files and everything worked fine, but when I tried the same technique with some other designer files, all I get is just a black square in Cricut Design Space. Any tips on what I might be doing wrong. I separated the pattern pieces and saved each to a pdf, then converted using Cloud convert. Same result....just a black square. 🤤
It really depends on the file. What pattern is it, if you don't mind letting me know. I now use Affinity Designer to convert all patterns these days. Less work! payhip.com/b/zxpC7

@@Sewlady718 I did download the Earphone Keeper and it is an image, not vector drawn (likely done in Canva). So in this case, you'd need to trace or redraw.

I have a jelly vinyl can I add HTV to it?
You know, I don't know! I don't have any to test on for you. Try a sample and be sure you are using a teflon mat beneath and on top. Start with a cooler setting, too, vs silk. Lately a cool peel has been working best for me.

Thank you Kelly. Can you also share what settings and blade to use? That's where I'm currently stuck.
I made a custom setting of 350 pressure, 1 pass. I use the pink blade (but a sharp standard should work fine). Vinyl face up unless the backing is fuzzy and will leave dust bunnies behind... then other way. Do a test cut first; you might need to use the "extra pressure" setting.
Are the measurements you draw different depending on whether you’re using #3 or #5 zippers?
I only use #5 zippers so if you use #3, you may wish to take a larger SA.

I have been trying to decide between the Janome HD9 and the Juki TL-18 QVP and because of the Juki being $1000 cheaper (in Canada), I have ordered the Juki and I'm excitedly waiting for it to arrive in a week!
which machine did you decide on? I am struggling with this same issue. IDK if the Janome HD9 is worth >$1000 difference

You don't want to use steam when applying HTV. Sticker is from AliExpress (watch out for copyright infringement).
I could not find the retail place for th first tassel cap. Is it Sew Unique or So Unique or So you need. Love to order some. thans

For smaller HTV, yes, a HH iron will work fine.

Thanks -- yes, it works great and no twisted straps. I don't have any issues with the DST gumming up my needle; but if it does, I just keep a little supply of alcohol wipes nearby and wipe down the needle.
